Sunday Newspaper Musings

I enjoy reading the newspaper. Today, it is our hometown paper, the Houston Chronicle.

I hope that it is something that I can pass along to Waverly as she gets older. I still find that she's lacking an understanding, at 12, of some of the day's current events. Granted, too, that there are some current events that I am perfectly glad that she doesn't have a handle on.

So here are some stories that I saw, and have a bit of an opinion on:

"Rocket sends reminder why we'll miss him", by Richard Justice (Sports)

Richard (who I like), I won't and quite frankly, I could care less.

"I would hope going forward that the public and the media will focus on more important things like the men and women serving our country in Iraq and other places around the world." - Paris Hilton

Paris, please. Your publicist, who helped get you in the mess that you're in, must be getting a prince's ransom to release this incredulous jailhouse statement from you. We might have bought this contrite attitude if you made the statement elsewhere and stayed out of the spotlight yourself for six months.

Some things that I learned today that I didn't know before:

+ Ted Williams was half-Mexican, according to Jose de Jesus Ortiz' column in Sports

I'm certain that there was more that I just haven't realized yet.
